And I completely agree with you on the innocent people who are accidentally or deliberately framed and victimised

Yes, I am also largely opposed to the death penalty given the possibilities for errors, but that wasn't my primary point.

I was trying to make the point that people who are emotionally invested in a story are not generally delighted when science refutes their story. I guess I was too elliptical in using the case of an innocent person being wrongly convicted and the judge or prosecutor not accepting the new DNA evidence.

My intent in posting the lecture on the origins of the universe was to suggest that science is required to properly understand how the universe started and changes through time. Science isn't cheap. It requires planning and expense and dedicated people who must sometimes endure difficult circumstances. And after all that, they still need to openly and honestly discuss the results, as well as open all of the data to peer review.

I would not fully accept conclusions about human nature using the philosophy of Ayn Rand or the theories of Sigmund Freud, or even the Bible. Although they may have acquired some deeper insights into human nature through their observations, they are no substitutes for rigorous scientific analysis. The former method demands fewer dollars than science, but I still prefer DNA evidence over eyewitness accounts in a court case, especially when people are highly emotional and invested in one particular outcome.
