Lots of questions tonight. Ill try to answer a few.
Sections of the east arm of great Slave Lake are over 3000 feet deep. Now if you want to scare someone while you are paddling along on a dead calm day, tell them they are sitting on three thousand feet of water. the east arm has cliffs rising three to four hundred feet straight out of the lake. Its as spectacluar as the north shore of Lake superior. Some would say more so.
Locally the ice, depending on lake, can be 3 to 6 feet deep.
There are no end of big and/or beautifull lakes in the NWT, of varying depth.
Its going down to minus thirty tonight and was well below twenty all day so good ice building weather.
Lots of ptarmign in and around town. They travel in flocks and always look a little comical like all white spruce hens. They love to scurry along the sides of the roads or hop up into the willows to get the seeds.
George I have a wood stove and an oil stove in town so go throw 2-5 cords of wood a winter depending on how much I use the wood stove. My cabin in the bush just has wood heat so use a few cords there each year as well.
Bill no reason the boulders should stop at snap shore so do extend out into lake probably. I know WSP has done a depth survey. Silt may cover boulders. I believe snap lake is 35 to 50 feet deep but have never seen a depth map of it.
Have a good weekend all, remember only six sleeps untill xmas.
Fix. Nope I aint St. Nick (yet) ho ho ho.
Regards Walt
