Okay, Del, I did not actually have the "chicken flu". I saw your post about that, and was getting close to answering it, but got lost in female hormones of various sorts, every kind but my own disappearing ones!!!!
Um, although I did not have the chicken flu, it seems very scary!!! At San Francisco International airport, people are very nervous about it coming in, as we get TONS of business and tourist travel from Hong Kong. I am curious, incidentally, as to why all the flus come from there. I was watching a news report yesterday, and it said because of the very close interaction between humans and birds, particularly edible birds. Well, okay, I know it is crowded there, but I can think of other places on earth like that as well. And I think it is fascinating that every year a huge number of infectious disease specialists sit down around a table, in February, and decide which varieties of Hong Kong flus to innoculate against, and then the next year's vaccine is created.
Unfortunately, there is no vaccine yet for this strain. It is hard to imagine the flu killing millions of people in one year, but it can, and the whole thing makes me nervous, seeing that we are the gateway to the Pacific and everything.
Incidentally, the flu I did have was horrible. It takes about five days to run its course, and although the vomiting stops fairly quickly, there is a lot of just lying around trying to figure out if you could maybe eat something, chills, and weakness for quite awhile. On the third day the muscles you strained throwing everything up are so sore you cannot move, besides. I kept trying to get up and be productive, but always ended up back in bed.
I hope no one here gets it, but it is definitely different, and it is going around!!!!!! |
