<What failed to flower in the 1800s may take root in the 21st Century, especially since so much of the Constitution and Bill of Rights has been effectively trashed during the last 100 years.>

I will probably regret having asked this question, since I suspect we may disagree (yet again), but what parts of the Constitution and Bill of Rights have been trashed?

Also, I have heard secession discussed before, definitely, but most states do not have the tax bases to defend themselves and maintain their infrastructures. Perhaps federalism has been so successful in taking these functions away from individual states that it would be difficult to recoup them without sheer social chaos reigning. Ha ha!! Maybe that was the idea!!!

Parts of California have definitely discussed secession, but there are at least four totally separate cultures within California, and very little agreement between them. California is interesting in that we have the world's eight largest economy or something shocking like that, so we could actually afford to secede if there were popular agreement on the issue, perhaps.
