Lindsey Graham: GOP Needs To Accept Marriage Equality Ruling (VIDEO)
June 28, 2015

Lindsey Graham says Republicans need to accept the Supreme Court marriage equality ruling and dump calls for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

As conservative Republicans like Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum continue whining about same-sex marriage being legal in all 50 states, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham appeared on Meet The Press on Sunday to tell them to get over it and move on.

During the interview with Chuck Todd, Graham said that the time has come for the GOP to accept the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. However, Graham also suggested the focus should shift to protecting the ability of conservative “Christians” to discriminate against gay people.

Furthermore, Graham called upon Republicans to abandon a 2012 GOP platform plank supporting a constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage by defining marriage as between one man and one woman. Graham said such a platform plank should not be carried over to 2016 because it would only “hurt” the party.

“What I want to do is protect the religious liberties of those who believe that opposing same sex marriage as part of their faith. So no I would not engage in the Constitutional amendment process as a party going into 2016. Accept the Court’s ruling. Fight for the religious liberties of every American.”
