The Society for the Development of Austrian Economics is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Carl Menger Essay Contest for undergraduate students. Professors Michael Thomas, Adam Martin, and Daniel D’Amico were this year’s judges. All entries were evaluated anonymously.

The prize comes with $500 plus a travel stipend and three nights accommodations at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel to attend and present at the Southern Economic Association in November. A panel featuring the winning papers will take place during the November 21-23, 2015 meeting sessions. The prizes will be presented at the Society’s annual dinner.

These prizes are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Foundation for Economic Education and the Charles Koch Foundation.

This year’s winners are:

  • “An American Ideology: Destutt de Tracy and Jeffersonian Economics”
Jibran Khan, King's College London

Joshua Letta, Christopher Newport University

Michael Kotrous, Creighton University

This year the Prize Committee received a great number of quality submissions, and they would like to thank all entrants for their submissions. In particular, the following submission was of such high quality that the Prize Committee has awarded it Honorable Mention:

Austin Spillane, Creighton University
