Hi,
I set up an old laptop with ubuntu some time ago. Installation was faultless and I really liked the interface and speed compared to the Vista I had on it previously.
As I had an older desktop running vista I thought of doing the same but ran into multiple problems. Firstly, I couldn't get the .iso file to run and the problem seemed to be the file structure. Even though my computer is 64 bit it wouldn't recognize the files. I tried again with an older version of ubuntu for 32 bit and it almost installed but still problems. I couldn't log in and got error saying out of range etc. Also couldn't enter passcode for router as it would only accept letters not numerals..Weird!
So...reinstalled Vista for now and will rethink how to get ubuntu to work. I would like to have both systems available to run on separate dedicated machines, not dual booting. Not urgent as laptop runs great so desktop can wait. It is just an exercise to keep my old grey cells working.
