At present all these alternative energy companies rely on govts for mandates and subsidies.
Your oil companies still get subsidies......... New technologies and new processes routinely get government support from agencies like DARPA....... That Space Station floating above your head did not come from private money.....

No one knows when or if that will happen and who the winning companies will be.
Those that do and are proved right will get very rich.

But since you see otherwise, let's hear your solar investments.
I'm well beyond that now, I made my investments in technologies in the 70's ..... INTC, MSFT, HPQ, IBM...
Now I go for dividends..........
