I am not crazy, Truman should have stood up against the international nuke development threat and declared, the 'Truman Doctrine':
Any other development of nuklear weaponry will be nuked on the spot together with the surrounding infra structure anywhere.
Nukes good for nobody, eventually we will also bury any further nuclear weaponry ambitions.

Back then the US was in a unique position to declare and sustain a world wide nuke monopoly.

Real democratic by our means? Not hardly, but a realisticly tough approach to keep us all out of the current SHIT.
