9/20 press relaes...Schmitt Ind and Veeco Instruments Inc. have executed a broad-based strategic partnering agreement for the development, manufacturing, distribution and support of laser-based light scattering surface metrology products for the microelectronics industries.

Veeco's Surface Metrology Division will add the TMS-2000, TMS-200W and TMS-3000 laser based microroughness measurement products to its Dektak family of surface profliers and atomic force microscopes. The companies have also agreed to co-develp additional products which combine Schmitt's laser-based measurement technology with Veeco's industry-proven, fully aurtomated Dektak platforms.

"We ar very excited to add this new optical measurement technology to our surface metrology product line," said Dr. Timothy Stultz, vice president and general manager of Veeco's Surface Metrology business unit. "The capabilities of these tools nicely complement our current product offerings and enable us to bring a more complete family of solutions to our customer' surface metrology needs."

Wayne Case presiddent of Schmitt Industries, commented, "Partnering with Veeco gives us the opportunity to rapidly expand our channels of distribution while concurrently providing comprehensive support to our growing loyal customer base. Veeco will be exhibiting the TMS-2000 surface microroughness system at DISKCON'96, booth #510, september 25-26 in San Jose, Cal; Schmitt will also display at this show in booth #238.
