If Obama meant to say he was speeding up forces training to fight ISIS, that is wholly a lie. The United States has only trained approximately 60 Syrian rebel fighters as of July 3, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, saying the number is “much smaller” than the administration had hoped to train at this point. “I said the number 60, and I can look out at your faces and you have the same reaction I do, which is that that’s an awfully small number,” he said. The number of ISIS jihadis who have been armed and supplied by the US is far, far higher.
And how many of those sixty were ISIS?
Off topic, could you imagine if a Republican president made such a savage slip?

The thing is, we are training ISIL forces. We have given weapons to groups that the Pentagon has designated as “moderate” — groups such as the Free Syrian Army, which has collaborated with the Islamic State. The Obama Administration’s avid and fruitless search for “moderates” to fight the Islamic State has put the U.S. in the position of training and arming a great many jihadis for the Islamic State. Obama’s statement was not a mere slip of the tongue. It was the most Freudian of all Freudian slips.

The White House.gov transcript left in the original quote, but placed the word ‘Iraqi’ in brackets after the word ISIL, correcting Obama’s mistake.
