Hi John, believe it or not it makes sense to me :-) You could own both TMO and TMF, rely on TMF to meet their goal of identifying and holding TMO-spinoffs with best capital appreciation oppty's, while holding TMO, exercising all rights you will later receive, and "flip" those shares shortly thereafter, realizing some nominal gain, sort of like collecting an irregular dividend. I haven't looked at a TMO chart but would expect TMO in its own right to grow, thus offering good total return. Strategy of course would make more sense in an IRA tax-wise.
