Taxes paid is a trojan horse. Tax law is skewed by congress and lobbyists. I'm amazed at how O&G investors are blind to this fact. Typical political rant by so called "conservatives" is: "Let's downsize SS and welfare. Quit subsidizing failed green companies, etc." Meanwhile the military is the elephant in the room, has about zero to do with national defense, everything to do with keeping other countries in line(offense, not defense) so our corporations can gain economic advantage. Clearly the military is corporate welfare at it's most costly and destructive. Yet both conservatives and "liberals" will defend it over all else.There is no free market except perhaps a local swap meet. Even those are under attack by government in many places. The general consensus is denial and 'don't rock the boat'. Military conquest has never worked as a lasting plan in history for any empire.
