Many of the estimates of lost revenue from password sharing, pirating etc. seem to assume that the content would be paid for, or at least much of it would be paid for, if it wasn't obtained for free. Often that isn't a safe or reasonable assumption, so often the estimates of lost revenues are huge exaggerations. That's even before considering that some of their customers might only have become customers because they figures they could password share.
