Yousef; What parts can be used on smaller and smaller stages, .35/.25/.18/.11 etc, and what parts must be sold to third world countries?
Since they were running .35 and at the same time building the 0.25, I leapt to the conclusion that few parts would/could be commonly used. Conveyors, vacuum pumps etc can be communalized, but the steppers etc would be at their limit for 035 and new ones needed for .25?, or can they change the innards and use X-rays/short UV/? to upgrade the machine en situ.

I had the impression that there were a succession of many steps that most stages needed upgrading to .25. Unless the parts all use a central exposure unit and they send the stuff back and forth from machine to machine to do the succeeding layers in the same machines.
A production line in my minds eye had a sequence of machines, steppers, ion implanters, heat soaks/oxidizers, etc all doing a single task again and again for max line volume, with holding stacks for assorted stages to optimize the flow, and even some parallelism for the slower stages. So if 15 exposures needed, then a min of 15 steppers needed.
