IMO the way to stop Trump is a) let him keep talking and b) one of the other candidates pre-empts his views on illegal immigration and starts attracting their votes. Assuming he makes the cut, and he probably will, what Trump says during the first debate will be key. Most people are still not paying attention and the debate will be their first real look at Trump's political views. But the other candidates have to do some assessment of his attraction and take it seriously. Ted Cruz seems to be manuevering himself into a position to gain some of Trump's supporters should he self-destruct, which is quite possible.
