Mr Meatchem, a long-time managing director of BMW Australia until he retired in 1993, replaces Mr Bob Forbes, who resigned from the post recently. While at BMW Mr Meatchem lobbied hard to reduce motor vehicle import tariffs in Australia. He was also the guiding force behind the establishment of 2.0-litre Super Touring racing in the country.
