Spreen.

>>It sounds like it is a spinach type veggy. Is this what you are getting from them?<<

Not really. It is flat and much thinner than spinach, although tougher and chewier than spinach in it's raw form. I couldn't quite figure out what it tastes like until you posted the link. It said when cooked it tastes somewhat like asparagus. Well, that's what I'm getting from it raw - a hint of asparagus. I haven't cooked it yet. You know how spinach tends to clump together when sauteed? Well, since this veggie is so flat I figured I'd just get a lump. So I just use it in salad. This week instead of a lettuce mix I received a bag of spreen. They said because of the heat their lettuce isn't doing well right now. So today I just had a spreen salad with cucumber and dill.

I like the look of that rolly polly zucchini you posted. It looks a lot like a squash. So many new things!

...

If I find a nice squash in a store I always save the seeds. They are delicious roasted/toasted and lightly salted. Also, I plant them. Well, I used to plant them. The last couple of years I haven't had the time to do anything in the garden. Instead, this year I'm cultivating weeds. They're doing very well.
