Rubio made a mistake. He underestimated how sleazy the democrats are. But he's a lot smarter now than then.

His immigration plan closed the borders, first and foremost. But that gets lost because he laid out a path to citizenship for qualified illegals after the borders were closed for some period. And that's a dog whistle for Ann Coulter and some other immigration nuts.
