We have a shallow well - only 60 feet. So far, knock on wood, haven't had any problems although it is probably due for a new pump since it is 32 years old. The only thing we have to worry about in droughts is that the Chesapeake Bay waters might invade the well.... so far so good.

Like you I never did had much luck with stir fried rice until I got our heavy non-stick 12 inch pan. Start with a bit of plain oil, onions and peppers and/or celery and garlic. After frying that at high heat for a couple of minutes I add the cooked rice (brown, preferably although white will do) and stir that around for a bit and add meats and/or whatever else you want to including frozen green peas. I continue to stir the mix for a while - it is ok to brown the rice a bit - and then open a place in the center for a raw egg.... stir the rice into it and when cooked thoroughly, I add soy sauce and a dribble of sesame seed oil. Turns out great and my wife will even eat it.

The stir fry is a real good way to get rid of leftover meats and vegetables etc... you can even add a whole variety of vegetables like bok choy and so forth.
