Exactly. I've done it many times. The old batteries are still good for other things by the way...I use them for all sorts of portable things and they will still recharge...they just fail the diagnostic test in the UPS because of discharge time or charge level. Pair a bunch of them in parallel for more capacity and connect up a power inverter and they are good for camping lights, etc. I keep another UPS around just to charge those batteries. Oh, and never use a car battery charger (regular or trickle) on them...destroys them due to charging current being excessive.
