JD, thanks for info. Scary, but on the good side one would think that any new (or remaining) leaders would realize that:

1) They have to behave themselves to get the desperately needed IMF bailout. (Like the article says, the International Monetary Fund's $US38 billion rescue package comes with demands for reform which challenge the hidden side of Indonesia's economic growth, requiring Mr Soeharto to rein-in his own relatives and allies.)

2) Treating foreign companies like ANZ unfairly will not only bring about more bad international publicity (like BRE-X did), but will discourage any further foreign investment in the country. Everything I have heard in the last 6 mos. has indicated to me that the Indonesians are very eager to do business with foreign mining companies in the wake of BRE-X, to try and re-establish some of the credibility that was lost last spring.

Further, I have asked ANZ about this more than once and each time I have been told their relations with the Indonesians have been excellent so far.

Later,
Wayne
