I remember the reputation of Bob Lemon as a hitter because he came up thru the Wilkes-Barre team and my father-in-law knew him.... He was originally an outfielder but was converted to pitcher......became Yankee manger for a while.

I didn't see many games live when Mantle was playing but it seemed everytime I did, he hit a dinger....less so for Maris.. The only guy I saw who hit them like Mantle was Reggie, that is height and distance....their pop-ups would take an hour to come down. ARod hits them high but not like those two... Dave Winfield hit everything like a line drive.... I can not be sure, but I think I saw Mantle hit one from both sides of the plate in a game in Baltimore...
