I'm having a little trouble following; I'm new to the thread and probably also in shock. I lost a huge amount of money in expired options yesterday in addition to the hits my stock holdings have taken. Anyway, what did you mean when you said "Better if you can keep the stock for another round, but take the money and run if you can." Which money am I taking and running with?

I got the point about buying puts but I don't have any money for that till I unload a lot of my stocks. It's a good idea, though.
