Hi Don - good thread.

I personally don't think that any "timing" models work. The vast majority of my portfolio is composed of four stocks INTC, CPQ, XON, and FTR.

I have held these for years and simply added to my positions when the stocks have taken beatings due to cyclical downturns/market conditions, and I have sold when I needed the money or the market offered me a price I couldn't refuse. This strategy has been enormously succesful for me. I have never bought or sold these securities on anticipation of future price trends or economic conditions.

Basically I have found that it's really not necessary to buy the "next" Intel when Intel will do!

As far as the trading/fun portion of my portfolio is concerned - I enjoy shorting stocks, both for the intellectual challenge, and the personal satisfaction I get from being able to profit when a fraudulent company falls to pieces. Not to mention that it's very fun to rant on these threads and battle the touts!! My favorite stocks in this category are currently AVNT, TRBO, and ZONA.
