"ONE PROGRAM is in debt 50% of our GDP and you say it isn't a problem."

We seem to be chugging along better than anybody else in the world. R's having been hoping for SS to destroy us almost as long as they've been waiting for Jesus to return, and with similar results.

"When you impose a 6.2% tax on employees plus 6.2% on employers, hell yes it hurts."
Only if you are Wall Street. Everybody else seems to be pleased. After Raygun raised rates in steps over several years, he created 450K more jobs than Carter, and almost as many jobs as Clinton did. That shows why you say you can demonstrate how it's hurt us, but you can't actually demonstrate that it has. The emperor has no clothes. The only one hurting is Wall Street, which would dearly love to manage all that money for a rather large fee, plus a large enuf profit to pay the corporate presidents 10X the US president, and to give shareholders a nice return.

"It creates unemployment (just like a minimum wage increase) "

Unemployment was like 25% when it passed, and around 5% now. You are very good at regurgitating cheap-labor conservative memes, tho.

" it makes wage earners have that much less money to save for their own retirements because they're having to pay for their grandparents' retirement."

They end up with more to spend, cuz they don't have to pay out-of-pocket for their grandparents' room and board. Instead, SS allows the elders to live independently on their own.

your argument, essentially, is that it doesn't matter if we raise taxes but provide no benefit to the taxpayers
I get my SS benefits on the third Wed. of the month. So do many other former and current taxpayers. I expect that reaganesque usnews.com adjustments will be made so that my children and grandchild will receive benefits when they're my age.

"left the bigger problem of Medicare twisting in the breeze"
Uh, no. Obamacare has already extended the life by 13 years. Still needs more work, tho. Bulk drug purchase pricing would be a good starting point.

"This country's best days are behind it. "
That happened on 10/16/73, or shortly thereafter, when Dad figured out Mom HAD to work in order to buy gasoline (when available) so he could drive to work.

"You ask why people are supporting Trump? "
I already know why; racists have been horny for one of their own ever since Pat Buchanan lost, and Birther-in-Chief Trump blows a fog horn instead of a dawg whistle. It's so loud his fans don't even care if he supports single-payer health care.
Let’s all remember that time when Donald Trump sounded like Bernie Sanders on healthcare
