Paul Engel, re: your discussion with Compaq
In response to Stockmans question,"What percent UNITS shipped are sub-zeros?" you responded that you called Compaq and they told you sub-zeros represent less than 10% of REVENUES. (Maybe you inadvertently transposed Revenues for units in your response?)
REVENUES includes everything; desk-tops, lap-tops, monitors, servers, service agreements, etc.
No doubt sub-zero revenues will be less than 10% of total revenues.
The question for the investor is still, "What percent of desk-top PC UNITS shipped are sub-zeros?"
This will be a clear indicator of the level of marketplace shift to low price machines, with all it's implications for Intel. Since Compaq is the dominant supplier of PC's in the US and W/W market they make the best candidate for this data.
Hopefully they, Dataquest or IDC, will provide this breakout when the FYQ4 data is presented.
Have a safe and happy Holiday!
