Mr. Obama wants to reduce CO2 emitting power plants and replace them with
windmills and solar PV with renewables accounting for 28% of our primary power
production by 2030 .. Who are this President's energy advisors ?? You can't run nor
have a viable $15 trillion dollar economy based on windmills and solar PV ..

I'm fine with trying to de-carbonize the planet ..
But, you can't just eliminate over 40% of the primary electric generating capacity
without simultaneously deploying a viable and reliable replacement ..
US taxpayers have paid billions over the past 50 years developing
next generation nuclear power plants, specifically the IFR ( integral
fast reactor ) and the MSR ( molten salt reactor ) at Argonne, Idaho, Oak Ridge
and Sandia National Laboratories ..

Passively safe
No possible 'melt downs'
Operates at atmospheric pressure ( no huge containment dome required )
Burns existing 'spent' fuel assemblies
negligible long lived waste
Non CO2 emitting
Most energy dense power source by orders of magnitude over anything else
Ability to power the planet for at least the next 5,000 years
Ready to commercialize NOW ..

Why haven't these reactors been deployed ??
Too 'disruptive' a technology for the current energy producers to stomach ..

Instead we get windmills and solar panels ..
And a "Let's see what happens if we switch everything else off first" policy ..

We should be building out next gen nuclear reactors as we retire the worst of the
fossil fuel power plants utilizing existing power plant sites and infrastructure where possible ..

Research ..

GE PRISM reactor, an IFR

ThorCon Power a MSR

Kirk Sorensen's excellent U-Tube series for the history of the MSR

Russia's BN-850 an IFR
