You're right about the brokerages houses always wanting to sell something.

I use a deep discount brokerage, so that's not a risk for me. I suspect most people at SI do. But brokerages as successful as Lehman and Solomon would never KNOWINGLY risk their reputation (business) over one recommendation. As the lawsuit (or settlement) will undoubtedly reveal, they didn't do their homework. People make mistakes, and sometimes they're very expensive.
