Overall, I'd say AMAT is a good bet here if you have a long term horizon but I think they chose to lower the bar substantially after the failed merger. I know I'm fairly disappointed by their outlook and the past few quarterly reports.

While I understand their caution and think it's wise not to be too aggressive, I can't help but think they've turned off a large portion of their potential investors at this time. Some of this was not of their making, as the merger looked like a terrific bet for both companies. Now, individually, they don't look as good and understandably so.

With this in mind, I'd say that it will require them to raise the bar or outperform their expectations before investors will come running back in.

Good company, terrific products but I'm not sure they're a "good stock" at this moment.

Maybe I'm just expecting to buy them lower and "talking my book", so to speak<g>....
