Problem in imbedded systems. From newsgroup have been unable to locate State of Texas Yr2K page

>>Isn't it the case that a chip in the Caterpillar 3406 truck engine is
reported to malfunction on the 1/1/2000 in a way that prevents the engine
from starting?

The cat truck is valid, and the State of Texas has noted on its Yr2K web site that approximately 1/4 of the fire trucks they tested have similar problems.

I expect that you will find such problems in the larger class of vehicle, especially the leased ones. I have talked to some leasing companies that deliberatly install maintenance requirements in microprocessors to ensure that their vehicles aren't run to death during a lease.

Another area to check. As with other areas, I expect that most of the vehicles you check will have no problems, but isn't it better to check and KNOW, rather than be surprised in 1999/2000? <<
