KAD,
I also am in the market for a new computer, i am still operating on a 486 that i purchased in 94 for $2500, my how times have changed! There is a really good website to price shop:
www.egghead.com
When you get to this site, there is a frame on the left that has two articles that are particularly good for the basics on computer purchases, they are how to buy computers, and how to buy monitors. They contain the basics on "what to look for", for example EDO RAM versus SDRAM and the basics of the monitor, such as "refresh" rate.
I have a degree in electrical and computer engineering and I even found things in these articles that are VERY useful.
The conclusion of the article on "computers" that stuck with me was this:
"every 1000 dollars that you spend, you prolong the life of you computer another year"
What a profound statement, but you know what, its right on target!
Good Luck,
RichieH
personally, i like the 300-P2, but not sure i can cough up another 2500.
egghead was undercutting the local retailers in my area by 10% on most models, for example, last week they had the p2-300 for $2249, i have noticed this week its back up to 2499 (probaly ran out of inventory), but they also "HAD" pretty good prices on the p2-233 and p2-266. Heck, after righting this message, i think i am going to go back and check myself, i may have some room left on my VISA! |
