This is what I said 2 days ago before the debate:

No mystery why Trump is in the #1 spot. He's saying what everyone is thinking and is beholden to no one. Didn't think in the beginning he had a chance. Now I'm not so sure. Could still split the party. Expect him to make everyone else look pikers.
The mods pretty much ganged up on him with questions about calling women names, war on women (he'd like to see her on her knees), calling Jeb names, his bankruptcies, whether he'll split the party. He's on all the morning shows and tweeting about how unfair he thought the questions were.

Gave me the impression the mods were trying to get the candidates to attack each other, rather than show the difference in their stands. They succeeded in making Trump the runaway winner.

It's possible he can buy this election. He said if the Republicans don't nominate him, he just might go off on his own. It's possible he would pull a lot of Democrats who don't like Hillary. A bit different from when Perot split the party.

While most of us are enjoying the spectacle and entertainment that Trump is bringing to the otherwise tedious process of the election process, he is hardly presidential material. He has things on the plus side, such as he's not a professional politician and he refuses to be "political correct," but he does call people names. He is probably more egocentric than Obama - everything is about him. He has a temper that he uses to get even with people. Imagine how he could use the IRS against his enemies. He lacks the polish of a statesman.

Big mystery why Bush is next other than he's been bought by the GOP establishment and will follow orders just like Obama takes orders for his puppeteers.
My impression seems to jibe with the Drudge poll. Only Christie polled lower. No energy. He acted more like a loser than someone who should be full of confidence. Can't see the party getting behind him now.

Walker's positions aren't clear. (Remember, I'm not paying too much attention.) What's bubbled up is that unions hate him. Therefore, I like him.
Walker didn't do anything to stand out. I don't remember anything he said.

Carson I like, but he won't get very far. He'll do well against Trump. Being articulate and speaking well doesn't mean much though. Newt was a great speaker and very articulate (I think his Stepford wife hurt him).
His closing was the best. It's a shame that at a time when America was ready for a black president, he wasn't the one to be chosen. Out of all of the candidates, he stood out as the most presidential.

Sorry Carly didn't make the debate list. So far, I'm impressed with what she's saying.
Carly came out the clear winner of the first debate, but she really didn't have any competition. She sounds good and has learned a lot since her run for the Senate in California. As the campaign goes forward and people start looking at her, her background will come up. A lot of people will remember her tenure as CEO of HP and all the drama surrounding it.

Huckabee, Christie and Kasich shouldn't be wasting people's time.
Huckabee's closing was good. Christie bombed. Kasich did well but still way in the back of the pack.

Paul, Rubio and Cruz are all lumped together as outside the GOP's mainstream. All have great things to say, but aren't being heard other than by those who support them. They need better PR people and more money.
Paul sounded bitter. Rubio did okay but not enough to make a difference. Cruz sounded polished. People who liked them before, still like them, maybe more. They're still talking to the people who already like them.
