8/7/15 Contest update
I didn’t know who to blame for the week’s biotech thrashing until I watched Thursday night’s Republican presidential candidate debate. By god, it was all Hillary Clinton’s fault! And wow did she do a thorough job - almost as thorough a job as Donald Trump did by declaring bankruptcy to wipe out the debt he owed to those “killer” banks.
When Hillary was done with her witchcraft, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up a mere 31.78% YTD (vs. up 41.43% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 21.49% YTD (vs. up 25.99% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index was up 27.35% YTD (vs. up 36.91% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.49% YTD (vs. up 8.28% YTD a week ago).
Despite a difficult week, DEWDIL’s portfolio, up 85.84% YTD, managed to hold the Contest lead. DANIEL’S portfolio, up 78.50% YTD and DONS’ portfolio, up 70.92% YTD, kept their grip on second & third place.
At the week’s close, 46 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 32 beating the NBI and 28 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 21.26% and a median YTD gain of 7.57%.
