Thanks for asking about the term "secular bull market." I've also wondered what it meant, but was afraid to ask. I just assumed it meant that many sectors were participating. So, prompted by your post, I looked up "secular" in Webster's:

[derived from word meaning "coming once in an age" ... "generational"] 1a-of or relating to the worldly or temporal 1b-not religious 1c- not ecclesiastical 2-Not bound by monastic vows 3a- occuring once in an age 3b-existing or continuing through ages or centuries 3c- long term or of indefinate duration

So, my conclusion is that "secular bull market" can mean (or not mean) just about anything. For my druthers, I druther think it means that this market is (was) a once-in-a-lifetime shot.

The best thing about using the term is that neither bulls nor bears can argue with it, because it can be intrepreted to support either position. Good wordsmithing, huh?

Good trading,

jim
