We will need a presence in the middle east into perpetuity.
We should do whatever it takes to make sure that is no longer necessary.

That explains (partially) why Obama is doing what he is doing. He thinks that by making nice with Iran, snubbing Israel, and treating ISIS like a "JV team," we can finally get out of the Middle East.

One thing is for sure. Obama is trying to undo everything George W. Bush did.
