There seems to be a constant in the market that someone or some group will have quicker access to the trading floors. What concerns me more about the HFT is that we've not had too many situations where some "out of the blue" negative situation happens during normal trading hours. One of the last ones to hit was when there was a rumor spread early in Obama's presidency that the White House had been bombed and he was hurt. The spike in trading only lasted a few minutes but I can't help but wonder what's going to happen to all the ALGOs and Programs when they all try to react at the same time..... The spike (up or down) might be temporary but the damage that could be done in a short period of time is very concerning to this observer!!
