EPA then waited an entire day before notifying downstream mayors, health officials, families, farmers, ranchers, fishermen and kayakers that the water they were drinking, using for crops and livestock, or paddling in was contaminated by lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic.
You mean the EPA didn't call and tell them the water was bright yellow in color??????

BTW, many of the locals are still fighting naming the mine a superfund site..........fear it will hurt the tourist trade.

and the officials knew (or could and should have known) the water was acidic (pH 4.0-4.5),
I believe all mine run off is acidic...........all coal mine runoff is acidic, I had runoff stream 15-20 feet from my house.....perfectly clear water but with nothing living in it......tasted very sulfurous.....
