I don't consider that a very big deal. I do believe that Carter did make some mistakes in foreign policy because he wanted everybody "to get along" and at times he may have displayed a bit of naivete regarding people much more cynical than he was. He wasn't an IDIOT though and he knew that any comments he made to the Russians about Reagan would NOT affect the 1984 election. Did ANYBODY in January 1984 think that Reagan wouldn't win a 2nd term? I believe the Reagan people played BOTH sides of the fence though. I think they did everything they could to get the Iranians to HOLD the Americans hostage until AFTER the election of 1980. As far as Kennedy.....he was a SLEAZE and should have been in prison rather than the U.S. Senate after he KILLED Kopechne....
