Ted, no one takes North Korea seriously anymore. They can even kill a handful of South Koreans without being taken as a serious threat (from 2010):

2 civilians killed in North Korean artillery attack

Meanwhile, North Korea declared war on the "imperialist America" how many times in the past decade? I can't believe that even the citizens of North Korea really believe the bombast coming out of Lil' Kim these days.

The conventional wisdom is that Lil' Kim is once again using "war" as a way to consolidate power and keep his subordinates and the citizens of North Korea in line.

But since I'm a "right-winger," I personally believe it's more than that now. I think Lil' Kim sees how well Iran's belligerence is paying off, and now he wants in on the action. Same with Cuba to a lesser extent.

Too bad for him the conservatives are in power in South Korea at the moment, or else we could see Obama riding on the coattails of some South Korean liberal trying to reintroduce the old "Sunshine Policy."
