Carter was the guy that chose Volcker.

He picked Volcker because he knew that interest rates HAD to go up to squeeze inflation out of the economy.
He knew Volcker would do that.

Unlike Reagan though, Carter wasn't planning to cut taxes so the rich could get richer and the deficits could get bigger.

This whole income inequality thing BEGAN with Reagan.

That's another reason I hate that Kennedy twerp. He made a point of splitting the Democratic Party in 1980 and gave us Reagan which left us with $18 Trillion in debt 35 years later.

The National Debt was still manageable under Carter and Carter was seriously trying to put the brakes on what was already becoming an uncontrollable Military Industrial Complex.

Reagan BLEW UP both those things. After campaigning about how High our National Debt had become under Carter he just sort of forgot about it from then on. It became the Republican Mantra...You can't raise taxes because the National Debt doesn't matter. Which Cheney reminded us of in 2005.

As far as the Military Industrial Complex? Reagan gave them Carte Blanche...$1000 for a bolt, $10,000 for a toilet seat...O.K. We're not gonna worry about how Defense Money is spent, we're just gonna spend it.....

The U.S. would be MUCH better off today if Carter had been re-elected in 1980...
