Evil Republicans created the toxic waste in laboratories and injected it into the gold mine.

No, seriously, those elements were formed in fusion reactions in ancient stars that later exploded and they came together in the early earth. They were distributed throughout the earth's surface and waters, but cyanobacteria concentrated them and other elements in their bodies, which were buried by geological action, and those elements are now mostly buried underground. Everytime we mine something - gold, metals used in solar panels, wind turbines, transmission lines, batteries, etc - we dig up some of the toxic metals. That's why solar and wind power inevitably create pollution.
