FNS: IO sonno in Brasil! I am at my inlaws enjoying warmer weather (actually a bit too warm)

On IPIC >>"Results of clinical trials with CerAxon in the U.S. have demonstrated that patients with moderate to severe strokes treated with this drug experienced significantly improved neurological and cognitive function relative to patients receiving placebo," <<

Yes this is based on a aposteriori cut of the data that was not part of the original experiment design. In this analysis they conviniently cut the data to extract some statistical significance. I doubt the FAA will fall for this. It would be nice to see what other doctors think about this even though this is no CNTO.

An anecdotal note on IPIC Citicoline trials which I just won't bother posting in their thread. A friend of mine going through Neurology residency happens to be under one of the Doctors that participated in the trials. The guy (I don't know if this is common practice) gets $12,000 for each patient he enrolled in the study! My friend says that he/she (I do not want to identify gendre here) could observe a bias towards accessing patients as being worse of than they really were at the initial evaluation so that at the final evaluation they would look better!!! thus showing that Citicoline really works. My friends opinion Citicoline is a piece of junk. This is the same friend who regards Reopro as very effective for stroke treatment. (my friend is not a mediocre Doctor. This is a foreign medical graduate that was heavily involved in research before starting a second residence in Neurology, the first one being done overseas. However, take my views with a grain of salt as this are second hand views/opinions from my friend over casual dinner conversation that included some wine). I guess what I am trying to say is that these are not facts but opinions based on second hand knowledge of aledge facts (got to cover my behind here).

It is interesting to read in the IPIC thread that some people, including some doctors, think the drug should get approved on a "why not give the patient Citicoline"?, on the basis that if it does no good it will do no harm either. I can think of a lot of stuff one can give a patient that would do just the same. Why not a cheap glass of water?
