Have never heard of factory restore.

IMO, it's the last option before scrapping the computer or doing a clean re-install. It wipes the computer clean to factory settings at day 1. No updates, no new programs, no new mail, nothing that you installed along the way.

Drastic, but sometimes you can restore a lot from a backup, without the offending blue screen culprit.

Maybe a repair shop can clean it up?
