I'm thinking the same way, but with SPX puts. The Dec '98 950's are around $66, which is only a 6% premium with the SPX at 947. I'm not sure of timing, though, since new-year inflows are generally strong. The background sure seems to be deteriorating badly. On the other hand, I can just sit a (possible) bear market out in cash and do just fine waiting however long it would take. That would be alot easier on my nerves.

I think the Yahoo shorters will do well at some point, and I've shorted Adtran (which is doing well so far) and Amazon (Friday).

My wife's long positions are hedged (probably the wisest route). She sold April calls against Yahoo last week that essentially protects her into the high forties, and she could cover and write a lower strike if need be. Her basis is around 19, so that beats the tax consequences if Yahoo doesn't fold.
