No, Del, I would NOT be willing to be one of the first people to settle a moonbase. Do you remember when I went to Mt. Shasta, and didn't even like staying in a very comfortable trailer for two nights?
I WANT to be an adventurous traveller and risk taker, but in reality I love the familiar comforts of home, and the feel of the earth under my feet.
Would you want to settle a moonbase?
Del, this coming Tuesday PBS has what looks like a very interesting Nova on the search among our languages for the "mother" language, and also a Frontline about child criminals. I'm going to watch them, anyway!!
Thanks for your best wishes. I am surviving well at the moment, very relieved that there seems to be no human-to-human transmission so far of the "chicken" flu in Hong Kong. The epidemiologists have put the whole thing on the back burner as they are studying it, and there is only one new case, direct from the unfortunate bird to an even more unfortunate child. Since I don't have any sick chickens at my house, I can relax!!!
So now we can enjoy the holiday season. Since I know you will eventually be moving to New Mexico, I thought you would enjoy this:
Choir Leader in "Limbo" Over Christmas Carols
Associated Press
Albuquerque, New Mexico
A high school choir director was suspended after leading a concert that administrators said contained too many Christian references.
About half of the songs at Tuesday's concert at Highland High School had Christian themes, and none referred to any other religion.
District guidelines were established in May on the separation of religion from regular school activities, saying, "Schools should be religion neutral (neither promoting nor inhibiting religious beliefs) so as to assure comfort to all students."
Frank Rotolo said he was not told why he was suspended Friday and didn't know if it was with or without pay. "Right now, we're in limbo," he said.
Rotolo said he had made several changes to the 90-minute program, including changing the title from "A Christmas Concert" to "A Winter Concert."
School district spokesman Rick Murray said he couldn't comment on a personnel matter. |
