Another factor that rarely gets mentioned is that when there was a vibrant logging industry there were loggers and mill workers that would voluntarily go fight fires. They were on those fires like white on rice because their livelihoods depended on healthy forests. Now, without these people, the only thing left are contract firefighters whose livelihoods depend on the fires.....not the forests. There's a dynamic there that isn't good.
