Terry, Agree that the market is looking for the next hot area and HDTV could be the perfect choice. Convergence not...
In December's Wired, Rants & Rave section, one reader hit it right on the head: "Didn't you learn anything from the interactive-TV experiment? Nobody needs this convergence, nobody is asking for it, and nobody wants it. Face it, PC TV is just a Microsoft marketing plan to find more Windows plattforms. The last thing I need is to be rebooting my TV several times a day."
The trick is to stay two steps ahead of what consumers want and then deliver it. Consumers don't want STPs, HDTVs, SDTVs network computers, PCTVs, etc.. They want improved TV audio and visual quality to watch/listen to sports, movies, etc. Whichever product delivers the best quality and is affordable, they will buy. Also, e-mail works just fine on the PC as does surfing the net.
Zenith and its best of breed partners need to place the most emphasis on the "C" side of CE. |
