While the board is a bit dormant.
I was looking around in regard to what we use oil for. Besides powering, Automobiles, Airplanes, Railroads, Commercial trucking and transportation companies, Bus lines ships Construction, Mining, Sawmilling, Foresty, Electrical generation in off grid areas around the world like Canada's north. Add to that the lubrication factor of all the for mentioned entities and Wind Thermal & Hydro generation plants. We tend to think of oil as something we need only to fuel cars or planes However beyond that oil is needed for many other things. In fact, hundreds of everyday products we take for granted are made from crude oil included are cosmetics, carpets, pantyhose, electronics and plastics. Also items essential to our health and well-being, such as heart valves, Aspirin, prescription glasses, soap and toothpaste. What do skis, a life jacket, a refrigerator, a pillow and soft contact lenses have in common? They are all based on petroleum, so it’s no wonder that Canadians alone consume about 2.3 million barrels of oil every day. Even the billions of miles of paved roads around the earth are there because of oil. I am not saying it will not be some changes in the future because there will be. But it's going to take decades. In that same time frame the World's population will continue to expand exponentially and there will be many new uses for oil like some of the ones mentioned above. Oil pitch is now used in the manufacture of 10% of carbon fibers used in Automobiles and airplanes ect. because it is stronger and lighter than steel. And like all new products, more advanced technology will continue to reduce it's cost, there by increasing demand as it is incorporated into more products. World population is projected to increase by 57 million per year to over 9B. Regardless of how it's viewed they will either use oil or some of it's by-products.
I researched this a bit in order to assess the pro's and con's Teck's position in the oil field. Not necessarily a century out. But relative to the time frame of my and the average investing lifetime of those over the next 30 to 40 years. It is my opinion Fort hills will help provide cash flow for Teck. To help finance and proceed with projects like Galore and Shaft Creek in the future.
Can't do with outs. http://www.dieselforum.org/diesel-at-work/power-generation
I relate investing to an old Native proverb.
"You will gain more. If travel with the flow of the river than to paddle against it"
