I don't think there's anything "interesting about it." But of course, this is SI, and everything is a conspiracy (side note: and this especially applies to the investment-oriented threads)...

1) The IE4 problem with Presarios came well before the DOJ stuff heated up.

2) Compaq (and IBM) have a lot of proprietary crap in their machines, in case you didn't know.

3) WHY, pray tell, would Microsoft want to ship software that doesn't work on many machines? Does anyone see anything advantageous to Microsoft in doing this? I don't. All I see is a bunch of users getting mad at Microsoft IE4 and then going back to Netscape for their browsing needs.
